Deciding which career path to take is one of the hardest decisions I have had to make thus far. Growing up, I have always loved clothes. I loved that I was able to express my feelings and style by the clothes I wore, and that I was never limited to a certain thing. But I also have been a bigger girl my whole life. And honestly, the fashion world did not have anything cute for big girls. It sucked being in high school and being limited to trends, not being able to wear the cute short skirt, or ever find things in a mall. That is when my fascination began with a career in fashion. I talked to my mom about certain ways I could go with my preferred future, but she wanted me to go a route with more "stability." So I actually came into college being a nursing major. I love helping people and being kind, so that was the occupation I immediately thought of. Nursing is not for the weak. At all. I learned so much through the courses I took my first two years of college, but when it came time for me to actually apply to the University of North Alabama's nursing program, I had a come apart. I freaked out and realized that nursing was just not what I dreamed of doing for the rest of my life. Luckily, I still had time to change my mind. I went and met with the advisor over the Fashion Merchandising program at UNA, and I immediately loved her. She was so uplifting from the moment I met her. She talked to me about different fields, how to find my strengths, and how to improve my faults. She has given me so much wisdom in the two years that I have known her. Ever since I started my classes I have grown as a person. I am accepted by my classmates, and we all are each others' biggest fans. We show teamwork at all times and help each other when one is struggling on a project. We bounce our ideas off of each other and try to come up with solutions on how to fix our problem. I have loved every single moment of being a Fashion Merchandising major. I know that it is a scary and competitive field to go into, but being able to be an advocate for fashion is something I will always hold dear to my heart.
